| Greetings!
Welcome to our inaugural newsletter. Please join me in
congratulating our two Newsletter Contest Winners; Jeffrey Barrington, from Michigan for the My Rare
Guitarticles name and to Rob Roberge from Sothern
California for the story. Thanks to everyone who entered the
contest. The stories and articles were so good that we've
decided to make this a monthly
contest! Every month, authors of published stories will
receive a T-Shirt and be eligible to win an Eastwood Guitar.
We've included one this month, congrats to Ziggy Majewski from Ontario.
We are also very pleased to announce the contributions of Michael Wright, The
Different Strummer, who will be writing a monthly story
for us from his world of Bizarre Guitars. Also each month we
will get tips and lessons from Kurt Lorange, author of PlaneTalk The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book.
As always your input and comments are welcome. Enjoy the
Guitarticles! Mike Robinson

This is not a story about why you shouldn't drink. It is,
however, probably one about why I shouldn't drink. Many
musicians, maybe even most, can drink and keep their
equipment. Me? No dice. I lost really cool guitars, amps,
effects; you name it, I had a knack for losing it.

Who among us doesn't relate to Nigel Tufnel in This Is
Spinal Tap when he tried to explain to "Meathead" that having
an 11 on his amp made it louder than- and hence superior
to-one having a mere 10? That's just how I felt back in the
day when, after nearly two decades of owning one-that's only
one-guitar, a classical, I decided I ought to get an electric
guitar again. Who could have known how slippery that slope
would turn out to be?!

After his 9 month bid in the clink for selling bongs, Tommy
Chong was released from prison and began his comedy tour. When
I heard that he would be performing in my home town (London,
Ontario) on Jan 28th, 2005. I was like "No way man! I can not
miss out on the chance to see Tommy Chong do stand up at Yuk
Yuk's!" Now Tommy Chong had other hits besides the ones with a
bong, a joint, he was also in a band called Bobby Taylor &
the Vancouvers.

1. Get tuned up and stay that way. There's no excuse these
days for being out of tune. You can pick up an electronic
tuner for just a few bucks these days. If your guitar doesn't
stay in tune, or is out when you play up the neck, chances are
you need new strings. If it's out of tune with new strings,
have the intonation adjusted. 2. Listen. 3. Pay as much
attention to what you don't play as to what you do. In other
words, let the music breathe, let it be an exercise in
contrast.
