Artist Recognition - Guitars Fame by the Players Name

    by Joey Leone

Greetings my friend and fellow strummers in this months column I will discuss that in my opinion that Artist recognition is one of the most important aspect of guitar marketing. That is a statement I truly believe, and in this column I will trace the popularity of certain guitars and the artists that I believe are responsible for their success.

Unexpected Eye Candy (The Avanti Guitar)

By Michael Wright, The Different Strummer

Maybe it was the smarmy, frozen smiles thrust kind of aggressively into the camera. Or maybe it was because our PARENTS chose the TV programming. Not that there were very many options back in the day when you were lucky to get three network broadcasts, depending on where you lived. If you were lucky enough to have a TV.

Rob's Crazy eBay Finds: eBay Myths & Misinformation

    by Rob Roberge

Myths and misinformation (Mythinformation?) abound in the vintage guitar and amp world. Want to start a fight on line? Go to some gear forum and say, "This, without a doubt, is the amp Jimmy Page played on the first two Zep albums." The amp you use for this example could be a small single 6V6 Supro, a Supro Thunderbolt, a Fender Champ, or any number of others.

    Cable Wars!

    by Don Mackrill

I've always wondered if high-end guitar cables actually improve tone over 'regular' cables. Cable companies promote the capacitance of their cables as being the key factor in tone quality - the lower the capacitance, the better the tone they say. This month we'll run some calculations and find out how much of an impact cable capacitance REALLY makes on your tone!

    Kirk Lorange - Los Blues

One of the 36,000 or so members at my other site Guitar for Beginners and Beyond recently pointed me to a Gary Moore YouTube video of him playing 'Still got the Blues for You'. What a great player and what a great tune. I started fiddling around with the chord progression in my office on the nylon and my girlfriend asked if I was playing Lionel Richie's 'Hello'. A bit later on a friend dropped around and asked if it was Santana's 'Europa'.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome: 1920s Supertone Tenor

I had absolutely no experience with the tenor guitar prior to the purchase of a 1928 Gibson TG-1. Intrigued by the ornate headstock inlays, the diminutive body size and its great hardshell case, I was quickly smitten and of course, started with a Gibson.

First, the body shape is like nothing you've seen - at least since the original Wurlitzer Gemini made its short lived debut in the 1966. Second, we have updated the electronics and controls of the original guitar with our "Made in Canada" custom built electronics system to give it a sophisticated modern tone without sacrificing that 1960's vibe.
