July 2007 |

|
| Greetings!
July 1st was Canada's Birthday and July 4th was USA's turn. It's summer and a good time to lay back a bit, so we've rerun a couple of old favorite columns and given the guys a break - some time to eat their birthday cake.
We finally got the the shipment of AIRLINE H44's in stock, so we have a couple of features on that - Will Ray from The Hellecasters has sent us his review - Vince Lee from UK has uploaded a couple of Video demo's to YOU TUBE - Vintage Guitar Magazine has also done a review. So there, it's H44 month here at My Rare Guitars. Rumour has it that Rob Roberge even put a BIGSBY on his!!!

This past month or so I found myself having the same conversation several different times with several different people.
That conversation centered around the question, "what were the greatest guitar solos on record"? I tend to go for
the usual ones, but there are some great guitar sounds, not necessarily just solos, that are also worth mentioning. So folks
here are my thoughts on the ten "Greatest guitar songs". My list is a list not in any particular order, so here
we go.

Spaghetti Westerns. Justice by Clint. The Duke as Hondo. Cattle drives, horses, chaps, revolvers, rustlers, Rangers and the Red River Valley. It's the image of Texas that runs through our blood like a celluloid river. But even though this Hondo II Longhorn hails from Texas, like Eastwood's films directed by Italians and filmed in Spain, there's a lot more behind the story! Here's the beef.

I'm a vintage gear nut, but I'd like to think I'm not a total analog snob. While most of my amps are tube amps (and rare or oddball tube amps, at that), and most of my pedals are pretty old school (mostly home made fuzz boxes and a Homebrew Electronics Power Screamer), I have some digital stuff I really dig.

Some time ago I published a blog post on the new Marshall JVM amp head. The post was titled "Does The World Need An Amp With 28 Knobs?". If you've read any of my previous articles it will be no surprise that the blog post pointed out how, in my opinion, the complexity of this amp will likely negatively affect its reliability, usability and ultimately its tone. Remember, that's my opinion - I bet the JVM has been a big hit for Marshall. That last comment is what I want to talk about this month.

The tuning and design of the guitar is such that some keys and their related chords are much easier to get around than others. I call these the "guitar-friendly" keys. Theyuse more open chords than barre, and so are much easier to getflowing musically than trying to track of and perform a series of barre chords.

Next month we will begin our new I GET IT advertising campaign. The ads will feature a new artist every few months. Each will include a picture and quote from the featured artist speaking about their EASTWOOD guitar. Some will also include quotes from other faithful Eastwood fans. Believe it or not, there are people out there that simply DO NOT GET IT when it comes to Eastwood Guitars - these ads will celebrate those of us that do. In recognition of our first ad featuring Bill Nelson, I am re-running an article I wrote last year about reconnecting with Bill. Enjoy!

I love off the wall guitars. Always have, always will. At the January 2007 NAMM trade show in Anaheim, California I discovered the Eastwood Guitars booth and was amazed at the number of way-cool guitars they were producing, many of which were reissues of old Supro and Airline guitars.
