| Greetings!
Recent comment from a customer, "My Eastwood P-90's are as
exciting to play as helping Pamela Anderson adjust her
bikini". I laughed, thought you might too. Summer is here, so
we have a few tasty re-runs for you amongst the new stuff.
Don't forget, if you are in a band, and play an EASTWOOD, be sure to get yourself added to the new ARTIST
CARD page, here
is a link to the form.
Enjoy this month's newsletter!

I have been recording since 1980, mostly in home studios.
And just for the record I will give you an idea of what was in
my first few home studios, it was no digital 8 track the size
of a paperback novel. My first home recording set up was an
Akai ¼ inch 2 track and a Harmon Kardon cassette deck, no EQ,
the only effects I had were a few effects pedals.

And we'll have fun, fun, fun 'till daddy takes the T- bird
away. The beach. The sun. California has flirted with national
popularity ever since the Gold Rush. And when filmmakers
discovered the endless summer of Hollywood, its ascent to
national dominance as a symbol became assured. But it really
wasn't until the 1960s that California became the center of
the youth- culture universe.

OK, folks, this month is the first part of a two-parter
about Vintage Magnatone Amplifiers. This month, I'll be
focusing on one underrated and rare model, while next month
I'll break down the 5 distinct collectable (i.e. tube and
mostly vibrato) periods of Magnatone Amps (from the late 40s
to the late 60s before they went to Solid State models in the
late 60s before going belly up in 1971).

I like pie... pecan, blueberry, my mom's cherry pie was a
favourite when I was a kid, but the pie, I mean PI, I like
best with tube amps is the long-tailed-pair. Huh? This month
we'll review the seldom discussed circuitry in many tube amps
called the Phase Inverter or PI.

Here is another interesting look at how notes conveniently
line themselves up in standard/dropped D for slide. I've
played this in D, but these positions exist for any other
chord. They may jog themselves into new octaves, but these
double stops belong to all keys. If you think of a minor key
as an inverted major key (Am is to C), then you can apply them
to minor keys too.

With this month's G.A.S. attack I decided to step outside
my "elitist" collecting box. Since I'm a tail end baby boomer,
the guitars sold by the catalog giants, Sears and Montgomery
Ward, in the 1950s-1960s had already faded by the time I
picked up the guitar in the mid-1970s.

Modal scales, or modes, are the different ways the major
scale can function and sound. Any one of the major scale's
seven notes can function as the root. Each root, or mode, has
a unique tonality and sound. All music is either based on or
thought of in relation to the major scale and its modes. Using
and understanding modes is critical to developing a knowledge
of guitar music theory and understanding popular songs.

The new EASTWOOD model captures the seductive look of the
original but simplifies the design with a Set Maple Neck
mounted to a hollow body with Maple center block, Mahogany
back, sides and a spruce top. The guitar features the
distinctive cat's eye f-holes giving it an unmistakable look.
The original Messenger guitars are now selling on the Vintage
market in the $5-$10,000 range. The new EASTWOOD model starts
at only $849.
