Lawrence Payne enjoys a reputation for excellence in music journalism. Yet this reputation is founded as much on his musical gifts as on his formidable literary skills, a dual facility that has won favor in assignments for Guitar Player, Guitar for the Practicing Musician, Virgin Records’ Dogma, Motown Records and many others. And though he started his writing career in the field of music, principally as associate editor at the L.A.-based biweekly Music Connection, he has built a thriving business that serves the needs of clients in many areas.

Mr. Payne has 20 years of experience working with successful corporations, including Toshiba America, Harman International, Harris Corporation and SpeakerCraft. He has also produced ads and marketing materials for major Japanese companies, many of them in his capacity as senior copywriter at prestigious Intermart Advertising/Tokyo. This association with the global business community continues through his work as an editor for translation firms in the U.S., Europe, Japan, China, Korea, India and Latin America.

Mr. Payne has a comprehensive understanding of music as a philosophy and technique, which he expresses through his work as a composing guitarist and improviser. He has studied with the Latin virtuoso Jorge Strunz, and has established friendships with many of the musicians he has interviewed.

Lawrence Payne’s success as a writer is a direct result of prompt response to client needs and the integrity he brings to each client relationship.
