    Getting Your Sound

    Getting Your Sound

    by Joey Leone

Hello my friends in guitar land. The most frequent question I receive from my fellow guitar players is how do I get my own sound. First, I would like to say that in my opinion a signature sound comes from your hands not from your gear. And also from a picture you have in your mind of what you want your "voice" to convey. But...

    1979 Gretsch TK 300 Model No. 7624

Like Rodney, it don't get no respect: 1979 Gretsch TK 300 Model No. 7624

By Michael Wright, The Different Strummer

Some guitars combine fascinating stories about both their creation and acquisition, and this 1979 Gretsch TK 300 Model No. 7624 is one of those guitars! It was conceived during what many vintage Gretsch enthusiasts consider to be the low point in Gretsch history. It was purchased during one of the great guitar adventures of my career! But, is it any good?

A Biased Look At Power Amps

A Biased Look At Power Amps

    by Don Mackrill

The power amp section of a guitar amp is comprised of the amp's 'big' tubes and the output transformer. By big tubes I mean those that are typically referred to when describing an amp such as EL84s, 6V6s, EL34s and so on. This month we'll look at how they are typically configured, how they are "biased" and, most importantly, how those characteristics affect an amp's tone and feel.

    NOTABLE...

    by Mike Robinson

Why is the newsletter a few days late again this month? Well, just got back from a whirlwind trip to United Kingdom. We saw a bunch of live shows, interviewed a bunch of guitar celebrities, photographed some players for upcoming advertisements and generally met some of the nicest people in the business. I'll need another month to get the video interviews together, etc, but here is a quick summary of the trip....
