The problem... Probably every guitar player knows the
problem, especially on jam sessions or on jobs with non-
professinal musicians: You are standing on a small stage or in
your practicing room, the band plays well and as loud as they
can, the mood and the feeling of the song reaches heavenly
highs. The volume knob of your electric guitar is already on
"10" and the pedal of your volume pedal is pushed to its
maximum already.

The Shaggs. Now there was a band that was baad! No, I'm not
talking street slang where you're supposed to flip over the
meaning. They were bad. There may never have been a recorded
rock band that was worse. Couldn't sing, couldn't play, the
songs were awful, and they were terribly produced. There's a
CD of their two albums. Check them out for yourself. BAD! In
fact, the only GOOD thing that came out of the Shaggs was a
legendary guitar and bass, the Avalon "Shaggs" models!

HOME Bass Note Savvy As a guitarist who has always played
with my fingers, as opposed to picks, I have always been very
interested in bass notes. My right-hand thumb is always free
to go looking for bottom end notes, and I'd like to pass on
some of what I know. We all associate bass notes with root
notes. It certainly makes sense to play, for example, an E
note as the bass note of an E chord, or a D note as the bass
note of a D chord -- after all, that's the note which names
the chord. But what about the other notes that make up a
chord?
