You're a Guitar Player. NOW WHAT?

    by Joey Leone

    HOFNER - Fuzzy Memories

    HOFNER - Fuzzy Memories

By Michael Wright, The Different Strummer

Just exactly why and when electric guitarists began using distortion as a musical voice is a little fuzzy, as it were. You can probably blame it largely on rock and roll, though some of those Western Swing cats were definitely pushing things. There's no question that the electric guitar was invented in order to be louder.

    Kent Short Scale Bass Guitar

    Rob's Crazy EBAY Finds...

    by Rob Roberge

The Short-Scale Bass is a versatile and wonderful instrument. It packs enough punch to be used as a part of a bassist's gigging set-up. Its shorter scale (anywhere from the super duper short 25 7/8" of the Valco/National/Supro/Airline pocket basses, to the 30" of the classic Fender Mustangs and Musicmasters) makes it comfortable to play for beginners, small- handed adults and guitar players more familiar with guitar scale. Plus, a lot of very cool ones have been made over the years.

    Mack Amps

    What Makes An Amp Good?

    by Don Mackrill

What Makes An Amp Good? Answer: Design. Simple ... or maybe not! The design of an amp makes it good ... or bad. However, the topic of "design" is a complex beast!

    Capos and Transposing

    Capos and Transposing

    by Kirk Lorange

The tuning and design of the guitar is such that some keys and their related chords are much easier to get around than others. I call these the "guitar- friendly" keys. They use more open chords than barre, and so are much easier to get flowing musically than trying to track of and perform a series of barre chords.
