Sunday June 6th was a fine day here in Toronto. We had the pleasure of spending some time with the guys from R.E.M. prior to their show at the Molson Amphitheatre. As many of you know, Scott McCaughey has been playing an Eastwood Sidejack Guitar for more than half of the songs on this tour (Scott is the long-time sideman for R.E.M.).
A couple of days ago I was ranting about taking my son on a trip to Europe. Good ‘ol Proud Father stuff. Twice in the same week? Yesterday morning on NBC’s TODAY Show R.E.M. did a live broadcast from the streets of New York City. They played their new hit single, Supernatural Superserious – and ripping into the opening guitar riff was long time R.E.M. sideman Scott McCaughey on his Eastwood Sidejack! Did I feel like a proud father? You bet!
Here are a couple of photo’s that surfaced this past week of Eastwood Guitars in action. The first is Britta Phillips (Dean & Britta) taking her Eastwood Hi-Flyer Bass Guitar for a spin recently in NYC at Dean’s book release party.
I’ve been playing the electric twelve string guitar professionally for the last 16 years in my band The Carpet Frogs. Guitar players have often complimented me on the tone of my electric 12 string and have asked me how I get that “authentic” sound! For me, it all started with the two Godfathers of the electric 12 string: George Harrison of the Beatles and Roger McGuinn of The Byrds. Obviously, the first ingredient is a great 12 string. The Granddaddy of them all is the Rickenbacker 12 string.
